COVID-Safe Commitment Video

This video introduces audiences to our six COVID-Safe commitments.

Ensuring our sites are COVID-Safe

Your safety and the safety of our community remains the YMCA's number one priority. To ensure our sites reopen COVID-Safe and in line with the government’s health advice, we will be applying six safety measures across all YMCA-managed facilities.

1. Temperature scanning. All staff, visitors and patrons will be scanned upon entry to the facility. If someone displays a temperature of 38°C, they will be politely asked to leave.

2. Social distancing requirements. A distance of 1.5 metres between people will be required throughout facilities and programs. All spaces within the facility need to be measured and 4 metres squared restrictions per space will be enforced. Staff will need to count visitors as they enter and exit spaces. Seats and equipment should also be removed to ensure social distancing.

3. Signage and instructions. All sites will need to display the provided signage and instructions on how staff and customers can be COVID-Safe throughout the facility. Hygiene signage and floor, seat and bench decal stickers will be installed to assist patrons and visitors will physical distancing requirements.

4. Increased hygiene and cleaning. There will be hand sanitiser available at entry and exit points, as well as in high touch point areas and areas of high traffic. All sites will increase cleaning, with regular touch point cleans and 24-hour facility cleans.

5. Training for staff. All staff will need to complete the Department of Health COVID-Safe training, as well as additional training provided by YMCA Victoria. You will have received an email from Human Resources outlining what training needs to be completed prior to returning to work. If you did not receive this email, please contact humanresources.vic@ymca.org.au.

6. Process for a confirmed case. In the event of a confirmed COVID-19 case, must follow the eight-step plan in place to ensure reporting, tracing and cleaning occurs before the facility reopens. Everyone who enters our facilities will have their details recorded to assist with case tracing. Please click here to view the eight-step plan.

Face mask requirements

Current government restrictions require all Victorians to wear a face mask or covering when they leave their home. These restrictions also apply at our centres and sites. Learn more about the Y's face mask requirements.

Stay informed

As the situation is constantly evolving, the most up to date advice regarding the current outbreak of coronavirus is available at the Australian Government Department of Health (DOH) website. Please follow the DOH advice to keep our community as healthy as possible. Resources (including posters and information around basic facts) developed by the DOH, should be placed in any YMCA customer facing site.

Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, and remember to sneeze or cough into your elbow. Containing the illness is important to minimise the spread of the virus to those most at risk.

Please do not come to work if you're unwell. If you don't feel well, or if you've come in contact with someone who has been diagnosed, or if you have been diagnosed – understand your leave entitlements and how to notify your manager.
